Engine comparison

I’m looking into some game engines to create a game with. I’m looking into the online RPG type of game (MMO).

Shiva/Ston3D Engine looks really nice. I hate how the support stinks though. How does Unity compare with the Ston3D Engine and the Shiva development environment?

I’d like to know if anyone had any experience with them.

The forum support heres unbelievably good, The docs are great and we hear from the developers quite regularly with our queries. Id recommend you download the demo and all the example projects, play around and try a tutorial. You will have a fairly strong point of view at the end of the month…

And you’ll probably stick around so Welcome!

Have you made an MMO or any large game before (2- and 3-year projects with teams of programmers)? If not, I recommend you don’t start with an MMO. That’s a bit like picking up a nice camera and deciding you’re going to shoot the next Lord of the Rings trilogy. Unity is a very nice camera, but you’re going to need a lot of time and help and money to pull off a project that big.

So, to drop the movie analogy: start small. Make a game where you throw a ball around, or fly a space ship. You’ll learn a lot about the engine you’re using, and you’ll have a much better idea of what you can do in a given period of time.

lawl, it’s one of YOU people again.

Anyways, Muriac is 100% right. I would recommend a Small Scale Multiplayer RPG before a MMO
