It’s quite limiting to be able to set only one scene as prefab editing environnement doing that we can have multiple type of assets which are not meant to be display in the same type of environnements. So having a list of scene instead of a single scene filed would be great. When in prefab editing mode we could have a dropdown list to be able to select the scene that fit the best with the current edited prefab.
Right, there’s more things that could be done to provide more flexibility with environment scenes. It’s something we’d like to explore in the future. There have been many different ideas for how to best handle this (two different ones just in the posts above…). It will require some time to properly look into it all and decide on and validate the best approach, so it’s not something we will have time to fix for the initial release unfortunately.
The user to be able to set up a list of default scenes - the drop-down or selection panel others have mentioned. When entering the stage, the default scene depends how they got there:
If stage entered from hierarchy: The scene the instance was in is used.
If stage entered from a prefab stage (nested prefabs): the scene from that previous stage is still used
If stage entered from project view: first scene from list of user defaults used
In all cases, user can select from a list of their default scenes they’ve set up to switch scenes to quickly check how the prefab looks in-situ
In all cases, user can drag a scene onto stage sceneview and that switches the scene and (optionally) becomes one of their defaults.
My thinking here is a no-suprise principle: If you enter from an object already showing in a scene - you get that scene. If you enter from the project area, you get a self-chosen ‘construction zone’
