Helloooo uCommunity, I just rediscovered Epic Games old android demo, I thought my smartphone was so obsolete that I was struck with awe when the demo showed on google play.
As a matter of fact, I’m still walking around with an LG Optimus 2X, that’s some 2×1Ghz Tegra 2 coupled with just 512mb RAM and CM 7.1.
Here comes the surprise: the demo run flawlessly on native resolution(800×480) at 38+ fps WITH high details, I assumed UDK would be much more power hungry but the graphics were just astonishing that I simply(sorry) don’t think Unity could match that.
Is it the 480p resolution or some heavy optimisation or is it just standard these days.
And can Unity publish such a seamless environment with 40 fps? …(wouldn’t ask that if CSR Racing had proper antialiasing:))
Epic Citadel is a very clever scene for reusing textures in lots of different places, bundeled with a very nice lightmap ambience.
I can’t comment of Unity’s mobile shaders to performance ratio but I could imagine that with some tweaking and effort put into it something simliar might very well be possible to achieve.
Madfinger already proved that awesome realtime art is in fact achievable with unity.

The epic citadel Scene is part of the Scenes bundeled with UDK. You can have a look at the setup yourself if you want to.
Just don’t be fooled by the seemingly complex setup. May textures are reused in a LOT of places to keep performance up.
I agree that it surely is a very impressive mobile scene, though. ![]()
