Episode 1: Suburban Chaos

Ever have an idea in your head that you just loved, but didn’t have the resources or experience to get that sucker up and running? Well, this concept is exactly that and it’s finally in the works. Quick rundown: The game is a 2d sidescroller based in a fictitious world where zombies have taken over, but they aren’t the only critters to watch out for! A few mock-up screens I made a while back have been added for you to view as well as a video on a working demo; still in the alpha stage. It shows a working health bar, including health replenishment in the form of a tasty beverage, 5 weapons, ejecting brass, two enemy types, climbing, jumping, ducking, shooting, moving, etc. Watch/view and tell me what you think!

Episode 1 takes place outside of a vast city, in the suburbs, with a small town to explore, a cemetery, the sewer system underneath the town, and of course, the burbs themselves. Instead of “levels” there are “areas” that are very large in and of themselves and other “areas” can be accessed by simply pressing a direction key in the appropriate spot to move on to a new place to explore. Buildings can be entered and explored for useful items, and crafting is even on the drawing board. By adding specific items together, you’ll be able to create ladders, barricades, board up windows and doors, make ammo and special weapons, even food and beverages.

Note: Keep in mind that the mock-up screens were made before the game began to come into fruition and the HUD and other elements have changed since then. At some point, we’ll be releasing a playable version of the demo for everyone to try out!

Looking good. Unique style and I’m really liking the way the player can traverse the world.

Maybe you could explain your first image? As you said its a 2D platformer which is very flat. Did you plan to add in some 3D aspects in certain area’s?

That’s still up for debate. We’ll be trying to get another video out with other aspects of the game for people to see which give a different perspective on the insides of buildings and such. My other guy has a few ideas, but we’re always up for suggestions. We’ll be keeping this thing updated as more comes out, so stay put and we’ll keep going

This game looks pretty interesting. I like the climbing on the edges animation. My biggest concern for you guys, though, is that the zombie thing has been done a thousand times over if you’re trying to make a popular game. The entire zombie thing IMO has been beat to the ground and needs to be put to rest for a good 5-10 years at least.

Seems everywhere you turn, it’s all you see, but this game isn’t just about zombies, as is stated above. There are MANY more enemy types that have yet to see the light, and there’s a main story that unfolds in episodes and takes you from the suburbs to a vast city, to finally, an underground testing facility, and even perhaps a UFO. The story is clear to me, but there are tons of elements and events/situations that have to be hashed out still. We are always open to suggestions as to what could happen in-game and in the main story line, though, so if there’s anything you haven’t seen yet and would like to start a request list, then feel free, we welcome your input

Two images showing what the test level should look like once completed. May change after a bit, but it’s also supposed to have a story attached to the whole thing. The books? Yeah, that means that there’s a journal or some such item that gives you more of the story as you find them all. What could those gray boxes and doorway lookin things be in the level? Hmmm… Thoughts?
