What do we know about this program?
Is it finished enough for unity developers to consider as an option? Apparently, it uses collada as its file format and cg for rendering. This seems needlessly convienent. I’m a blender man, myself. But this seems like it has, at least, the potential to be a better option… and I really would like to, like, yaknow… import animation.
Hi,
Best way to answer your questions is to give it a try!
Honestly, I’ve used EQX3D several times, but not for real production. My impressions were that it has a number of really cool features, but I found the gui a bit awkward (but I guess that’s the case with any new software I use). Since I don’t have a Mac to run Unity on (yet, still seriously thinking about it) I’ve only run EQX3D under Linux and haven’t experimented with the import/export features. I think the -potential- exists for this to be the “perfect” compliment to Unity.
Anyone else try it?
I gave it a shot. It’s free and the documentation smells like it. It’s just pretty lacking in the manual section, but I didn’t give it much of a chance.
It looked like it had some sort of bone/skeleton type thing in it… but I didn’t try it.
Oh, the key to get it to work on Mac OS X is to open up X11.app before using it. Otherwise you’ll get an error and it’ll quit. When it’s running it looks very linuxy as it’s an X11 app. That’s definitely not a deal breaker for me.
I’d love to hear more how it works as I won’t get a chance to check it out in depth for a while.

It has no real animation support… Just stuff moving on a path. Nevermind. =s
I must profess that I really haven’t dug into it very deeply and never tried to animate a model with it yet. But what is the IK skeleton for if not animation? I’ll have to dig through it a bit more later today…
