Erosion and Shifting Landscapes?

Hello, I want to start a project that will revolve around landscapes shifting and eroding. What would be some ways I can tackle this? Is it possible to do this in Unity or should I learn how to do this in a separate program like Houdini?

To help illustrate what I mean, here is a video I found on Youtube. Please excuse the poor quality lol. It’s in the first 15 seconds.

Thank you in advance!

It’s certainly possible in Unity, but it may not be easy.

Does this need to be 3D for your purposes, or would 2D suffice?

Ok good to know and thank you for responding. This would need to be in 3D. Do you have any suggestions on how I could pull this off in 3D?

I guess you need a mesh to be as dense as the most rugged (probably original) version of the landscape requires, and then you smooth that out by moving vertices around.

It’s a pretty advanced project, for sure.

Ok that makes sense. Thank you for getting back to me. I really appreciate it
