ERROR failed to initialize 3d graphics

Well, I just installed Unity and to my disappointment when I tried to start it for the first time I got a window saying

ERROR failed to initialize 3d graphics

Failed to create master Direct3D window

I have been programming for a while and this looked very interesting and I googled this error and found nothing. I am on windows xp with the latest directx 9 installed.

I’m using Windows XP 64 with Nvidia GTX 260 Gfx card

Same problem, never had it before, was working fine.

The same error occured to me, but i fixed it by updating my graphic card drivers.

May not be able to fix it in your case but you should double check if your drivers are updated.
If that doesnt work you should instal / reinstall directx

  1. Try to update your drivers
  2. if your gpu have >= 4GB of memory - wait for 3.4
  3. drop editor log file for us to check
