Crossposting from showcase. This project is finished as it is also unfinished…
Hello everyone,
the last month I have spent around two-three weeks building this demo app for showcasing the boARd 3D platform, for augmented reality gaming… Feel free to test out the app, as it is downloadable for free from the App store:
The “boARd” that is visible in the video is a printed version, and can be ordered online from our site. But, we are providing a DIY kit for those who wish to test this out of curiosity and do have some time to put 12 A4 prints together to get the full experience.
This boARd will of course support other future games we and others are going to build for this platform. And more boARd designs apart from this limited 1000 piece edition are coming too
We are currently negotiating a seed investment deal, but are All in on this project, so if you like the idea and the experience, do not hesitate to give support by purchasing one for your next tabletop RPG party, sometime next year
I will post updates about ESPIONAG3 here, and create a thread about boARd 3D when it’s time.
the game is supposed to become a multiplayer game accomodating 2-4, maybe 8 (with a larger boARd) simultaneous players. The game will be updated with a random game generation functionality, where the players will control characters (spies) that are put into their safehouses and 3 levels of goals are randomly scattered around the map (that is also random for greater replayability The first level are informants, which are plenty of, through which players can find out about goals (get this and that), which are a bit fewer of, through which they gain access to a main goal. This main goal is basically a flag they need to unlock with items gathered in goals and transport back to the safehouse to score.
The crowd functions as a masking element, where during gameplay other players can look at the same area of the map and cannot tell from the first glance which one is their opponent (your friend at the table). Therefore the spies need to be moved in ways that the crowd agents move with, to avoid detection.
There are of course situations, like when you are talking to an informant inside of a bar, and someone sees you, he will know you are a spy an eliminate you. But you can still blend in the crowd.
It’s just a capture the flag with a few fancy added elements, utilizing known ideas from multiple games of course. It is the interaction method and the ability to play with friends at the table like a traditional board game that make the difference.
I want to push this to a state when it offers greater value, but at the moment, you can test it out. This game will be kept free for the time being, although other, completely reworked versions of ESPIONAG3 may pop up, but they will not share this Noire setting
Local multiplayer is what games were always about, as the physical presence of other players and all the interactions you get apart from the game world interactions are not achievable through online experience. This is what Wii was about. Like 90% of people did not even buy games for Wii and played wii sports with their friends all over… I don’t know about Wii U, we’ll see.
