Export to IOS saving mp3 as wav

When exporting mp3s from my resources folder(not sure that is relevant but whatever) in the inspector they say they will go native(MPEG). I cannot change this option to compressed(it is greyed out). However in the preview at the bottom they show wav and when I open up the export file they are waves and have 3x in size. Almost all the audio options are disabled in the inspector so I cannot change much besides 3d sound and stream from memory\disk

Does anyone know why this would be forcing music to use wav format in export?
Thanks!

[EDIT]
Making a new project does not have this problem so it must be a project setting of some kind.

[EDIT2]
Adding new wav files lets me change settings again, but when I hit apply it all reverts back.

[EDIT3]
I tracked this down to something weird in Unity. If I have a compile error I can use the audio inspector. If I do not, I cannot. Does anyone know what this might imply?

mm… it’s normal that mp3 settings are grayed out, if you want to have wave sounds use audacity, or some online converter software.
I have no clue why it reverts the changes tho.
