Hello! I’m new to the whole 3D game making process so please bear with me. Some friends and I thought it would be neat to make a small, FPS with just a couple maps to play around on. But we also want to add our own custom made models… I’m also brand new to blender, and after watching some tutorials, i made a small little house. I was wondering how i get that house into my map? I already dragged the .blend file into my assets folder, but its only has a white blank text document icon, which makes me think that its not recongizing it. If someone could just point me in the right direction that would be wonderful!
Thanks guys!!! Hope I can give back to the community once i get over the noob stage!
I assume you use blender 2.53 at the moment?
If yes, then unity will not be able to import your blend file (yet). What you can do is exporting the house in unity to fbx and copy that into the asset folder.
The other way would be to work with Blender 2.49, where you can just put the blend file into the asset folder. Considering you’re learning Blender right now, it wouldn’t be the best decision to learn the old UI that is going to be obsolete in a few months, so i suggest you export to fbx from 2.53 until there is a working blend import.
If you do work with 2.49 at the moment and it doesn’t work, make sure your .blend files are set to open with blender 2.49 by default in Windows/OS X.
“what woodn” said + don’t forget to delete the default lamp and camera in the blender scene.
(or disable the camera/light tick boxes in the .fbx export options)
