Extreme lag on iOS 16.1.1

I just upgraded my phone to iOS 16.1.1 and there seems to be some performance degradation issue during game runtime. At certain points in several of my games (that run smoothly on 16.1 and prior), there’s a visible glitch/tear/lag that occurs and ruins the experience.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Bump. It looks like other apps with Unity/WebGL games are also being affected by this issue.

CC: @brendanduncan_u3d really need your help with this please.

Thanks. I let the rest of the team know we really need to track down where these iOS 16 issues are coming from.

Thank you @brendanduncan_u3d !

Do you have any updates here @brendanduncan_u3d ?

Hi @brendanduncan_u3d – this is impacting several of our games, has the team looked into this yet?

@brendanduncan_u3d Hi there, checking in on this again.

Sorry for the slow response, still recovering from a winter break.
We filed a bug with Apple, who claim they have fixed it but no estimate for when it lands in iOS. I’ll track down that webkit bug link.

Excellent, thank you for the update @brendanduncan_u3d – yeah please share that webkit link when you find it, thanks!

@brendanduncan_u3d did you happen to find the webkit bug link? We upgraded to iOS 16.3 beta 2 recently and the games are still laggy.

@brendanduncan_u3d checking in about the webkit bug you referenced.

@george_playbite Sounds like this right? No one assigned to that one though.
248768 – REGRESSION (iOS 16.1): Unity applications crashing with possible related bug for Godot 247860 – REGRESSION (Safari 16.1): All Godot Engine Web Exports fail to load

Thanks @sandstedt those do sound similar. Our games are running, but they overheat the phone and end up crashing eventually most of the time. Pretty annoying that’s not assigned yet. Thanks for posting these!

Has anyone heard anything about this? The webkit bug is still unassigned and we’re still experiencing laggy games that overheat the phone and eventually crash our app.

We’ve also tried building with newer Unity versions to no avail.

Help!

For anyone facing this problem, iOS 16.4 beta 3 is looking good so far! We had tested beta 2 and the issues were still there, but beta 3 seems to have fixed it!
