Factory/Industrial Automation? Anyone?

I’m just curious if anyone, or how many people, might be using Unity for doing factory or industrial automation, say visualization or monitor/control.

There are applications far more suited to this type of thing try researching Delmia / CATIA…

I haven’t heard of anyone doing it, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be used; Unity is flexible enough for games, so straightforward visualization or data monitoring software shouldn’t be a problem.

That said, look into kabab’s proposed solutions first; they might have some features more appropriate for industrial use out of the box.

One user here.

For one account we used Unity for logical simulations of the machine. Not for physical simulation as it’s just not suitable.

Only for development though, we hook up our internal simulations to the controllers and debug with that in cases where the physical machine is not yet built.

There’s not a lot of demand from our clients for 3D factory visualization, as it’s mostly operators running their machines and the UIs need to be simple and process-centric.
