Failed to reach Unity license server.

Hello, recently I downloaded Unity Hub and the most recent version of unity. I went to go activate my license on my computer through the automatic option, but I was prompted with “Failed to reach Unity license server.” After that I decided to go the manual route and to my surprise every time I click “Save License Request” nothing follow… any solutions?

Are you using a proxy or something? This kind of problem generally means that the internet connection is down.

No, no vpn or proxy. I actually just fresh wiped my computer in hopes that would do something, but no luck.

I’ve tried doing everything I could possibly think of allowing the ip of the licensing server, disabling my firewall, my windows defender, allowing all unity files to read and write. I still cannot connect to the license server nor can I create my own license request, every time I try it does nothing.

Do you know of anything else that could be preventing me from moving forward?

No, either the servers are down or it’s your internet connection.

You can try something though, go to “C:\ProgramData\Unity” and delete the “Unity_lic.ulf” file. Quit the Hub from the tray and restart it.

If you are on Linux of Mac, just search your computer for Unity_lic.ulf, they are all named the same or read this thread further  .

Thanks for your help, I downloaded Windows 10 ISO and updated my system, it repaired a thing or two and coincidentally it fixed Unity! Thank you again.

This happens to me on about 3 computers in a room of 37 computers. It happens intermittently. I just do the manual activation and that worked.

I run hub as administrator and deleted the file mentioned by APSmidt
With that I managed to get the automatic license, and its looking fine now, hopefully it stays this way!

In my case, it was the file unity_license.json. Then restart and run as admin

Sweet - Thanks! Deleted unity license file as mentioned above then reopened hub as admin seemed to fix it.

Linux users can find “Unity_lic.ulf” here: /home/username/.local/share/unity3d/Unity/

I don’t know about Mac users.

For OSX/macOS, the location is
/Library/Application\ Support/Unity/Unity_lic.ulf
