Faily Brakes

Hey everyone,

My name is Anais from Spunge Games and we’re getting close to finishing our latest game Faily Brakes.

Faily Brakes is a physics based game where you must maneuver an endless mountainside dodging hazardous terrain such as trees, rocks, creeks and trains resulting in some fun and hilarious near misses and crashes.

Faily Brakes is being released on Mobile (App Store and Google Play) and we hope to release a Gear VR version. We have used vertex shading in the mobile version to keep the download size small and we’re really happy with the results.

We will continue to post updates on our progression. Please feel free to get in contact if you have any questions. anais@spungegames.com.

Thanks!

I like it, looks well polished.
I like the movement of the car, as well as your graphic style and presentation…so far I would spend a dollar or two, thinking: let’s try it yeah (let’s assume this thread would be your app store page  )

What I don’t like too much is your logo. I THINK F_iLY should get a flashy orange or something (like a warning light in a car) and make ‘brakes’ bigger? There is something in your logo, that seems too, easy or not catchy enough.

To be honest, I like everything but the name. Just because your game is an infinite-something style game doesn’t mean you have to call it ____y _____ (pronounced: blanky blank). It just continues the myth that games have to emulate past successes in some form in order to be successful themselves.

I do like the shading a lot, though. Great style.

Thanks for the feedback! People seem to either love or hate the name but I guess we did want to match the whole “verby noun” trend.

We’ll have a look at the logo as well. Thanks!

Sounds like you wouldn’t love, if they changed the title…

… to Breaky Broky Brakes ?? :p:p:p

vomits

I think people are more likely to like your game if they can make connections with it in some kind of way. It’s proven that kids learn better from theory because they don’t have a lot of past experience to link new concepts with, adults learn mostly by creating links with previously learned stuff, and then everything in between the 2 is a continuum. Very terribly resumed, but you can read more about it if you dig into andragogy.

What I’m trying to say is, true they aren’t being 100% authentic about their name, but 100% authentic rarely sells well. While crossy roads didn’t take its name from another source(unless it did and I’m unaware of it), it’s still a frogger in disguise.

Edit: Game looks great by the way. Best of luck.

Think the name is ideal for the product as it’s a product that is within a clearly defined mobile genre. Your target audience is more likely to pick up the game because of the title - it is immediately what they’re looking for and familiar.

Mobile games of this kind fare much better with self explanatory titles

Good stuff.

You’re right, of course, but I still have a distaste for this convention. Downhill, No Brakes! is equally descriptive and would (hopefully) be catchy enough on its own merit without having to comply with the blanky blank naming scheme. Maybe it would even set off a new chain of name copycats, like Up Hill, Outta Gas!, Cross-country, No Water!, and the adult-oriented All Night, No ED Medicine!

Thanks for the comments everyone! To be honest the name Faily Brakes started as a joke but then kinda stuck. I think it sums up what the game is about pretty well and I think (hope) people will expect it to be a particular type of game that they like and are familiar with.

I like the look of your game, if you would like to add in some more lighting with vertex lighting, check out my free tool, it lets you bake ambient occlusion, indirect and direct lighting into vertex colors

Hope its useful

I’ve changed my stance: I’m willing to forgive the trendy name because the game just looks like tons of fun.

Love the initial setup showing the brakes and crashing through the fence, and great call with ragdolling the character upon impact. Also, from the looks of it, you’ll continue to gain points based on how far your driver flies before landing, which is a great touch.

Looking forward to its release!

Rename it to Shitty Brakes.
