After starting a survival horror game, that i showed in showcase as basics, i finally managed to make enough for a Teaser, that shows the game i’m currectly making. Its name is Faint : The Damned and this video shows a in-game footage of the first part of the game, when you discover where you landed. The scenario is really basic : A guy “discover” an underground factory after a car crash (he falls in a hole that was made by a guy escaping the factory) and will have difficulties to get out. So in this video you see what is most important about my (maybe) future game.
Important Credits goes to wccrawford, who made the voice behind the door, thank you a lot ! We can always find nice guys in Unity Community
Most credits goes to Frictional games, indirectly, because the music, the start door closing and the monster moanings are from them, from Amnesia : The Dark Descent.
The monster shadow (at the end) is made by a friend.
The scripting, level design, developping and everything else is from Delta Sector (which is, for now, only me)
For the future complete game, i’ll of course remove all sounds from Amnesia, when i find someone to be the sound designer
Enjoy this video, and post comments, it would help a lot !
Wow, looks great. Reminds me a lot of Amnesia. Just remember to replace their assets with your own unless you have permission. I would bet this could easily capture the horror game audience.
Sorry but engine itself doesnt look anything similar at all. Rendering quallity of Amnesia engine is very good, in some aspects even better than anything out there.
From my perspective quallity shadows (good softw shadows) and good AO baking makes good scary game. Shadows in Unity are in my opinion too harsh and for me it doesnt do it job when it comes to scary games.
With that said, still very nice job, mechanic is very good, keep up the good work.
Everything was made with unity, and i totally agree with the fact that rendering shadows is not that good with Unity. In fact, maybe the pro version offers a good rendering, but i won’t pay 1000€ just to get better shadows… Maybe the topic i saw on the forum, proposing a 20$ Dynamic Shadows system would be quite fine. Else i’ll have to setup the lights and projectors to make it real, but i think it will be hard… Well, challenge accepted
My aim isn’t to make a game that could be at Amnesia’s level, i have too much respect for that game to just copy it, i have in mind many stuff to get something different.
Would love if you could share the line of code your using to make it so when hovering over a object you can drag and it shows a hand GUI. Also how did you add sound to the doors? These are issues im currently trying to find a way to solve. Great job by the way. Looks awesome.
