Fake IndieGoGo campaign

In searching our website on google, I stumbled upon a fake campaign started in my games name. Although it’s early and no monies received, i was WTF!!! Unfortunately, IndieGoGo has no phone number to reach them. I did find an unlisted number but menus always lead to voice mails. I’ve sent several emails and still no response.

For one, we have no funding campaigns
For two, if we did, we would advertise them.
For three, we dont’ have enough users right now to have a successful campaign.

Here is the fake campaign “Fake IndieGoGo Campaign

Has this happened to you? What were you able to do about it?

File a notice (email at bottom), or fax:

Nasty. Can you use this to your advantage, e.g. post news about it to various news sites, so gain supportive traffic for your actual game?

LOL, always the opportunist.

I’d go beyond that, once the campaign is shutdown i’d seek legal advice to see what can be done against the author, he stole your intellectual property as well impersonated you to make a quick buck, i wouldn’t let it stay there.

He was stupid enough to use one of our youtube videos on his campaign. I’ve since changed it and added a little note to anyone who visits the page. what a dumb***.

Thanks for the comments, I’ve sent an email to the one you provided and tried contacting them. I’m working on getting the stuff together to have them remove it but they still haven’t contacted me about it.

Also, I do have an attorney, I’ll talk to him to see what can be done about going after him… in thinking about it thought, it’s most likely this guy is from Nigeria or somewhere as opposed to Alabama like his profile says.

If I were anyone of you guys, I would do a search because most likely the content came from the unity forums as I don’t even advertise the game yet! Also the icon he is using when the campaign started was one I only used on this forum. I only recently added it to my youtube page a couple of days ago.

I hate scammers so much. This world doesn’t need them, they are just worthless leaches that contaminate our existence. Unfortunately the globalization of digital goods and the anonymity of the internet make this an impossible problem to combat.

Makes me wonder how many get away with this.

ZorNiFieD, also make sure to put an annotation at the beginning of the video. That way, it will say it’s for a fake IndieGoGo without people having to visit the Youtube page.

Seems like people are really asking for lawsuits now a days. Hey atleast your game gets some real exposer in the mean time.

They are probably hoping you aren’t smart enough to notice before they get paid.

Smart enough or lucky enough? I don’t typically look at that kind of site, I certainly don’t search for my game title particularly often, and while it’s findable on the Internet it’s certainly not particularly widely known (yet) so it’s unlikely that discerning users would recognise it as a fake to let me know.

So if someone did this to me, chances are they’d be able to wait their 30 days, swipe whatever cash unsuspecting users donate, and disappear… ripping people off and slandering me in the process.

Dodgy as…

LonelyGirl16 you are not.
