I watched the localization webinar yesterday, thank you for broadcasting I wonder if I can specify “language fallback chains”.
For example, supporting Canadian-french (fr-CA) doesn’t require to translate every text to fr-CA, many texts can be used from French (fr) instead. The same goes for “es” and “es-mx”.
However, platform guidelines often require specific terminology for some stuff which depends on locale.
Therefore I would like to know if “language fallback chains” are supported. Means the game would be fully translated to “fr”, the “fr-CA” table contains a few texts only.
If the game locale is set to “fr-CA”, the game displays “fr-CA” strings where available, otherwise fall-backs to “fr” strings.
Hi,
We have fallback support in 0.10.0 which should support this use case.
You would have a table for both Canadian-french (fr-CA) and French (fr)
The Canadian-french (fr-CA) Locale would be set to fallback to French(fr)
Then in the Canadian-french (fr-CA) table just leave empty any fields you want to fallback and enable the fallback behaviour in the LocalizedString
