Fathom: A Steampunk Adventure

Hi to all you Unity bods - just like us

All Aboard the Steampunk Express!

So going back a fair while, we decided to start developing with Unity 3D. We already had a game in mind that was originally going to be 2D, but we felt that it would be better in 3D, or to be exact 2.5D. That game is Fathom, an action adventure game that combines puzzle solving with combat and exploration in a beautiful Steampunk themed adventure.

Journey through ancient ruins and beautiful caverns as you delve deeper into the dark waters of the Caribbean Sea, battling long-submerged foes with fiendish intent!

To master the Bathysphere and wield the ultimate powers of Atlantis you need a sharp mind, a happy trigger finger and a hunger to explore. Repair the Atlanteans broken machines, solve their ancient puzzles and be rewarded with their hidden relics of destruction to wreak havoc on their mechanical defences. Wandering blindly into a fire fight could be the end of you; exploration will yield secret pathways, a clever way to dispatch of the threat or the means to reduce them to scrap metal!

Fathom has a strong focus on puzzle solving, from pick up and drop offs to brain teasing riddles. The idea is that you get to enjoy drifting through a beautiful environment, solving puzzles ranging from child’s-play to hair pullers.

We at Ironsun Studios are primarily based in England but with people in Russia and Romania too, all committed to the cause of a special genre; the Undersea Neo-Gothic Steampunk Adventure.

The game is now working well; we have finished the first two levels and are starting on the next. You can find more information about the game here

Hope you like it - we have put a lot of love and attention into it. Feedback welcome!

This is beautiful!

Looks awesome! It reminds me of the underwater levels in Crash Bandicoot haha

Glad you all like it - its a labour of love. Unfortunately our website is currently down (host server issue not ours) so when its back up please head on over.

It looks great!! Reminds me of Bioshock for some reason haha

Fun fact: Ironsun is a nickname I’ve been using since 2003

Looks more like OceanPunk to me. Those vehicles are ornate, but nothing about them says “steampunk”.

Actually, what part of it is Punk? The Punk part is about going against the rules and doing your own thing. You’re just exploring Atlantis… A perfectly legit and legal thing.

“I have to find how to shut this thing off.” Holy crap, handhold much? Have some respect for your players and don’t tell them every bloody little thing. Let them find out that touching it kills them and they’ll figure out they either need to go around or shut it off on their own.

“This device seems to control the door. It needs some kind of code.” Cripes, the handholding actually gets worse.

Yeah and talking of respect, why don’t you have some for what is obviously the result of a lot of hard work

Thanks for all the positive and constructive comments. Just to clarify the footage is from the first level which is the tutorial level, hence the commentary etc.

p.s. the website is back up

Thought I would put some renders and concepts of the Bathysphere

and enemies

More to come - hope you like
