Just wondering: what’s your favorite modeler for Unity3D?
I’m somewhat of a Max person, but that’s not free. I’m looking for a good free tool for the project I’m on now (they have no big budget for Max or Maya). I know about Blender. Any others?

There are a few others, and quite honestly i would use Blender if the damn UI wasn’t so screwy. i can’t stand it, and it’s sad because Blender is a powerful app.
Anyway, there are a few others, but no nearly as powerful as Blender.
There is:
Truespace (www.caligari.com)
K-3D (www.k-3d.org)
Wings (http://www.wings3d.com/)
and others…
Do a search for free or open source 3d editors or modelers.
Hope that helps!
Thanks. I’d heard of Wings and Caligari (didn’t know it was free), but not k-3d, will look at that. Milkshape was something I used a while back. I really need Collada import and export (and it needs to actually work).
Total agreement on Blender. I don’t know what UI paradigm they’re using, but it’s scatter-brained. The DXF importer appears never to have been tested on Windows, and you have to install Python all over the place to do the simplest things. If it were ‘tighter’ I’d be all over it.
Heck, I’d be willing to write plugins for anything that was nearly good enough.
