Hi All.
I wonder if a few of you knowledgeable chaps would like to help a fledgling newbie. Ive searched on the topic for a while now, but not finding anything too specific on my problem.
Ive got about 9 FBX models that are all the same character. Each FBX has a different animation saved to it. I believe its a BIP animation exported to FBX from 3DS Max.
Ideally i would like to have my FBX character, with the 6 animations inside this one fbx. Is it possible for me to do this?
If i import all the FBX Models I cannot remove or duplicate the animation that’s tied too it.
The FBX Models are from Turbo Squid so is there anything the distributor can do to make this more Unity friendly?
They have been really helpful, so im pretty sure they would happily export it differently if it helps.
Im at a bit of a loss on this one, and any advise on this whole business would be really appreciated.
Basically Unity offers two different kinds of animation imports - both of them are described here:
So the first approach is that all the animations are in one FBX file and on the import settings you can exactly define which animation starts and ends at which frame.
The second approach is that all the animations are within separate files. In that case you won’t even need the model itself (just the skeleton) in the files, so that you end up for e.g. 1 file containing the model (and the skeleton) itself, and all other files with the animations.
I personally prefer the second option here as it is a) easier within the 3D application to distinguish the animations as well as within Unity.
I’m sure the guys over there at TurboSquid know about that and can help you out with that. Though I doubt that this is really necessary.
No matter what exact approach you take, you will always end up with using Animation Clips. And those can be used with any compatible model and Mecanim Avatar.
Thanks Glockenbeat… The Documentation and your explanation has helped me no end.
I have no idea why i didn’t think to look in the official documentation in the first place. I think my brains getting unified!
