Could you make texture streaming on mobile available around jan/feb or earlier if possible please since our artists have begun on project 2 while I sell project 1. Project 2, is a triple A quality thing, and its taken mortgaging everything in sight for it
I don’t do things by halves, I’m just hoping that unity will catch up to the workload we’re pushing on it by then!
Current project 1 for your reference, uses 80 megs of textures and is dangerously close to crashing on 256 meg devices (limit seems to be around half device memory). A lot is compressed too, with some parts unable to be compressed (storing gloss maps in alpha).
Keep up the great work, you’ll love what we’re doing with it in the commercial space. Getting close to being allowed to announce it soon.
nope right section … wishlist should have been removed long ago anyway as it was obsoleted in 2010 already as http://feedback.unity3d.com is there for feature requests
Scaleform has not been mentioned at all. Yes it was presented but thats a plugin that you will be going to license from ScaleForm itself and thats likely the way it will remain as unity has no royality share license model to pay the thousands of dollars per licensee and title for it (thats why UDK Nov 2011 got the upgrade to Scaleform 4)
I dont understand why these big companies don’t cut deals for say bulk purchases. It’s loss revenue in my eyes. I doubt every pro customer will buy a ScaleForm license.
Design on the 2nd major unity title is already underway. We have budgeted for 70mb of textures, and it won’t look anywhere near as nice than if it used streaming (if it was streamed, we’d be using 200+ per level) 3rd project in summer will have to use it.
bulk purchases make no sense with techs that normally are licensed per title.
UT doesn’t offer them either nor does anyone else who has to pay engineers at 8-12k / month, as flat fee pricings just don’t generate the revenue required to pay them.
Thats why you will be able to license it from scaleform then for the titles you want it in and pay for it the appropriate price that fits their minimum needs to not make you a lost deal.
Scaleform has no need for exposure, so they don’t have to throw it out as advertisement unlike other technologies that got used that little that they desperately need engines integrating it to push the rest of their business
