Feature or bug?

I just noticed today that if I hold down the Alt button (on Mac) and dragging a folder in my Project’s tab and drop it anywhere, it creates a duplicate of that folder. I did it by accident and noticed I had a folder that I was moving but it was already in the correct folder so I just dropped it on itself so it would stay where it is, but instead it created a subfolder with the same name and copied everything inside the folder into the subfolder.

So, I was curious, is alt dragging a Unity shortcut for folder duplication or is it a bug?

thats OSX default. Alt drag-drop instead of only drag-drop means copy to target instead of move to target
the cursor visualizes that too by showing a green + on top of the icon

Thanks for the quick reply dreamora

So it’s an OSX feature then
To be honest I never even noticed the green plus.

Like I said, I first did this by accident. Then I did it on purpose and tried to cancel the copy but I wasn’t able to do so. Am I correct in saying that once you start to drag then you have no choice but to let it copy or is there a keyboard shortcut to cancel the operation?

Let go of alt, then hit escape. (Same as in OS X…pretty much everything is the same, actually.)

Face palm…
I was holding on to Alt for dear life while hitting Escape… If only I had lifted my one finger before asking the question… Hey, I never used that particular shortcut in OSX. I just Apple+D when I want a copy… Who knew :stuck_out_tongue:

…yet face palm still… Thanks for pointing out the ID10T in me
