Feedback Friday #91 - December 6 - 9, 2019

Feedback Friday is now open!

Want design feedback for your work in progress and need some playtesting feedback?

Then you’ve found the right thread! Feedback Friday runs from Friday to Monday every week.

What To Show

  • Minimally Viable Product (MVP) - Core game play > everything else
  • How To Scope Small (Unity tutorial)
  • Post a link to a playable game, preferably WebGL. If you don’t have a playable game, post something substantial, not just text.

How To Ask For Feedback

  • Be concise.
  • Specify what you want feedback on and what you don’t.
  • Resist the urge to write an immediate defense. Take the time to understand their points. Remember that your friends here are taking time out of their busy schedules to help you for free.

How To Give Feedback

  • Be positive. Every game has redeeming qualities.
  • Focus on the design, not the designer.

I’ve added a little bit more since last time. Things are sped up a bit, more weapons, shield, camera zoom and minimap added.

Still got a little bit of merry-go-round combat… guess I need to sharpen up the AI.

@Serinx - Maybe you can just “dumb down” the AI by making it fly in a straight line at random times, even if it’s not optimal to reach the player. This will make it harder for the player to predict, and it will expand the field of combat instead of having them just circle each other.

So when are we going to get a playable version?

(Note: Since the weekend is over, this thread will be closed in about an hour.)

@Serinx This is definitely more interesting to watch being played. It feels more like a game.

On the AI front, perhaps you could have several types of AI, maybe adjusted by weapon loadout. Some AI might rush straight in and try the tight circle with their short range weapons. Others might try and hold the enemy at X range, circling or flying away as needed, in order to make their missiles count for more. A ship with weapons that are fast tracking could zip back and forth somewhat randomly trying not to get hit as it attacks.
