Feedback on my current progress

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can give me input on my games art style. The game I am working on is a JRPG that uses pixel art in a 3D environment, where the texture for each 3D model is also pixel art and then scaled depending on the model.

I’ve only got one picture to show for now though…

Thanks

Looking great so far!

What’s the game about?

Thanks!

Its a story driven JRPG so I will try to explain it without spoiling anything.

The game is about mages who have formed guilds. You follow the main character (shown in the picture) who wants to be a hero just like the hero of one of the previous wars. He tries to do this by joining a guild and together with his guild mates destroying the calamities of the world but as he goes on his journey he ends up discovering why the calamities exist and their reason for existence.

It is really hard to give a spoiler-free synopsis of the story but I hope that gives you some insight

Oh I can see you already have a working story. How about the game mechanics? Are you’re gonna implement all the standard JRPG elements? Turn-based combat, team/crew management, etc…

I really Liked the style, mixed 2D and 3D!

Do you thing that this terrain texture is blurred? I thing it could have as same style as the character(not blurred)

About the story, I liked that. Seems simple but it gives you a world of possibilities. Do you know “Chrono trigger”? It’s an awesome JRPG with an lovely story, your game style remembered me this game… good Job!

The concept of having flat 2d pixel art in a 3D environment is awesome! Blowing pixel art up to fit 3D models appears to be blurring them out a bit, maybe up the res on those? It is also hard to tell with that particular shot. It might be interesting to see low poly backgrounds, or more examples of how the background and foreground art will work together.
