Few questions about Unity 3.0

Hi,

sorry if my questions are answered somewhere already, failed to find myself.

My situation: I have Unity iPhone Basic 1.7, but I’ve released my first game in pure Obj C / XCode.

Now I want to make second game, but this time in Unity. My question is, should I upgrade to version 3.0 straight away?

As it is still in beta, is it safe for commercial use, e.g. release to App store etc.?

Also, is there a list somewhere to compare feature in old Unity iPhone versus new (features already implemented and not on wish list).

Also, does SM2 and EZ GUI work with 3.0?

Thanks in advance.

SM and EZ work

what you though will lose is occlusion culling unless you upgrade to pro

thanks dreamora!

Loosing occlusion culling is pretty sad news, I reckon for most biggish 3D games Basic version becomes somewhat worthless?

So if I would pay money to upgrade and loose such big feature, what do I get in return? Anything exciting for iPhone in version 3?

Sorry for bumping this thread, but can’t find any information what new features will be in upcoming Unity for iPhone 3.

I’m thinking upgrading (this weekend), but if iPhone Basic looses OC, will be there something similar to replace it? If not, why would anyone upgrade to v3? Must be some other very compelling reasons?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Plugins for regular iphone license.

Potentially all will get the 2d system once it happens in a later unity 3 version.
If gui is reworked all will get it.

Don’t know if programmable pipeline is available in iphone basic but if it is, you have it too.

And then naturally support for iphone 4 and new OS4 stuff and fixes (I know that GameKit was once a thing that was intend to be added, unsure if thats still the case)

Also the iphone basic upgrade costs the massive nothing of $100 at the time, $150 later on

thanks mate, you are very helpful as usual!

Money is not the issue here, I’m just worried about loosing OC.

3D game I’m planning to make would greatly benefit from OC (as any other 3D game I would assume?).

So now I have 2 options - either stay on old version, or buy iPhone Pro? For me this would be expensive as I would also need to get Unity Pro. :frowning:

Btw, is this official about no OC in iPhone Basic? Did Unity guys told this somewhere in news etc.?

I’m curious about this as well. I understand the need to differentiate iPhone Basic and Pro, but removing features from Basic that were once there is just wrong.
