File SIze

I did my first iPhone build last night and although it was good to actually see a hi res version of my little project there were 2 disappointments,

  1. I had to do 2 full restores on my phone to make the Xcode errors go away.
At no point during this process were any cocoa touch projects i tried causing build errors. There’s something not right here.

  2. the file size is 11.5Mb and my total content is so far around 500k. I was led to expect around 5Mb for the Unity engine. Where did the other 6 go?

there was a rumor about a new forum launching with 2.5… please say it’s true! we desperately need a better search! this is about the 500th thread with the exact same content…

ad 1) sorry, welcome to the club
ad 2) zip it

My unity app on the App store contains no additional content and the file size according to the store is 14.7M .

And most of that “not right” is the iPhone apart from Unity so yeah, welcome to the club on that front.

Where were you “lead to believe” that? And do you recall that person mentioning that sub-10MB apps are only possible with Unity iPhone Advanced and build-stripping? With Advanced and the optional build-size stripping you can get below the 10MB mark, with Unity iPhone Basic you cannot.

I’m not sure where you get your rumors but that is 100% false and not going to happen. We are implementing some forum changes, but for the time being will continue to use the existing forum software. For better searching folks can try using Google and enter the following as your search term:

site:forum.unity3d.com “”

That can at times yield better results. Part of our forum improvements are to add Google searching like that as a built-in option. Over time we’re planning on a larger scale forum replacement but that’s not in scope for 2.5 nor for this spring at all.

Or just use Unity Search to search for the time beeing. Scans unity3d, unifywiki and the boards

oops! sorry
col000r is right about the forum searching though. forget the needles where are the haystacks?

Which ones? looking of a field of cut gras

I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the forum search, yet I have never had a problem with it and believe me, I use it often. From what it sounds like many people aren’t restricting their search to only look in the iPhone Development portion of the forums, resulting in hundreds of search results that have nothing to do with your issue.
