Final Run, massive iOS driving action game hits the App Store

After 15 month long development grind Final Run is finally available on the App Store. We’re both professional game developers, I worked on the project full-time, taking care of production, design and art, my friend working part-time mostly focussing on scripting, tech and design. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to hire and work together with highly talented game industry professionals and aspiring game industry professionals, including one of Driver San Francisco’s narrative designers/writers.

Final Run is a massive indie project, created in Unity, with its own focus and direction. It combines elements of vehicular combat, exploration, zombie killing and frantic runs across mined roads.

STORY:
A catastrophic global epidemic has wiped out millions. Now the highly contagious infected have been contained. Bordering the containment area lies the Grey Zone. In this derelict no-man’s-land, only the desperate survive…

In Final Run, renegade scavenger Kurt Boltares finds himself protecting Doctor Shizu Lee as they are forced to flee the containment area. Having betrayed their former leader, a ruthless mercenary they call the Chief, they know that if they can’t escape, he’ll have them killed. Or, if they’re really unlucky… the Virus will get them first.

Congrats on the release! Looks fantastic!

This is a fantastic little game that evokes fond memories Interstate '76. Great work!

iControlPad support, too, couldn’t ask for more! I sincerely hope more developers jump on this bandwagon, and I hope more folks give dual-analogue support a crack!

cough carmageddon ripoff cough

Nicely done though

Thanks guys!

It has been a great experience working with Unity! Final Run has been in the AppStore for 2 weeks now and we haven’t seen a single crash log coming in! So far we’re getting really good reviews, all between 80-90% so far, we’re hoping to get more exposure now. We’re getting a lot of praise for the story implementation and the mood. The entire world is logically structured, looking out of the level you will see areas you may visit later on in the game!

I really love playing the game with iControlPad, I think it’s definitely the best experience playing the game so far

It’s cool seeing the different comparisons coming in, I think the closest thing you can compare us to is probably Interstate  We definitely had a good look to see what other games are doing, I actually bought Carmageddon 1 and 2 to study, which are DOS based with pseudo physics, which was great to experience again! There’s over 30 years of really interesting games to study, I think we really took all that in.

I gotta say we really had a fresh take on all the genres we encompass, our combat is quite deep, it offers a lot of choice and it’s different with all the weapons you can unlock, it’s a fresh take with a lot of variables there’s a lot of ways the same battle can go  The zombie gametype is actually really tactical, it puts more of an emphasize on resource management and planning.

Awesome looking game. I hope it all goes well.
In-fact… I think I will buy it today!

Edit: Bought it.

Still waiting to play it. In order to play it I need to upgrade to a higher iOS version. Everytime I tried to upgrade an error message would pop up. Then this afternoon my iPod decided that suicide seemed like a good idea so now I have to get a new one.

Give me a week or two and I will tell you what I think of it.

Thanks for the puchase! Good luck with the hardware, I hope you enjoy the game!

I have now played it and it is awesome. Great gameplay, great storyline. What more could you ask for?

Any plans for an Android release? I’m hoping so cause it looks great in the video

15 months for socks, that has got to be punishing to work on. Great work though!

That would be a good idea. The android licences are still free.

Thanks for the comments

That’s great to hear man!

We’ll definitely look at an Android release, it’s not feasible to do straigh away unfortunately! We’re working hard to implement Game Center at the moment, and we’re taking in some feedback from our fans. Please be in touch also by e-mail at rotorgamesnl@gmail.com if you’re facing any problems, or if you have any specific suggestions you don’t like to share here
