Finally... I released my game. Will it be fun or... just another piece of shit

Hi,
I would like to share with you my latest game “Cai’s Adventures” which I released today. I don’t know whether it’s fun or sucks. But I finally released it, the process of making an indie game is really not easy.
Nor to say about reaching business success. I hope it will not be another sad story…

Game Description:

Cai’s Adventures is a brand-new classic 2D platform game. Control your unique character shuttling between
different themes and scenes while maneuver around other annoying enemies and obstacles, or just destroy them. But be aware, there’re also some big bosses hard to deal with. Enjoy the fun of frantic shooting and bombing and don’t forget to enjoy the nice view of the landscape at the same time.

Features:

haha, nobody cares

nothing really matters, anyone can see

I didn’t play your game - because I’ve already played this game before - Super Mario Brothers.

If you are having issues with low download numbers I think that might be the issue. It looks like the gameplay is solid, and the fps looks very good. But the game resembles SMB so closely in gameplay, some gamers without knowledge of development might be thinking this is a reskin of a standard platformer package.
Their are worse things a person could hear about their game than it plays very similar to SMB, but for me I think the question is - what will I get from playing this - that I did not already experience 30 years ago at a higher quality level?

These bullet points are supposed to be the games Unique Selling Points.

  • I don’t think the character is unique especially in todays minecraft-y look alike environment where blocky character are common - IMO he is a box with a generic skin.
  • Well designed level is a subjective point and although I agree form the video they do look well designed, maybe a stronger selling point is the Unique level elements.
  • Multiple props - is an expected part of a platformer game, but I think you are attempting to point out - multiple weapons for the character right? Maybe consider describing them a different way. Numerous Weapons to defeat Uncommon Enemies.

Not the feedback you were expecting I suspect, but I’m a developer not strictly a platform mobile gamer.
What are the people who are playing your game saying?

Really grateful for your reply and feedbacks.
I guess you’re right. My friends test my game and feed back that it’s similar to Super Mario Brothers. One of the major problems I faced is that how can I make a totally brand new game and not similar to any other games already exist if I decide to make a classic platformer game. Cause if you have a character that can move, jump, and shoot, then you can say it’s similar to SMB.

Similar to SMB might be one reason for my low download numbers issues. But I think the main reason is that I’m really bad at marketing. Nobody knows my game exists. If your game doesn’t get featured in the app store, then it’s not in the app store. Well, I guess my game is just not good enough…

I think your game is awesome! Don’t be so hard on yourself! Instagram is a great place to market your game. I received over a 100 downloads in less than a month and all I do is post one post a day! Out of those 100 downloads 25 percent left 5 star reviews! Just like game development, marketing is extremely important! Just a lot of hash tags!
