I’ve wanted to use Unity even before of its Windows release, but I never had the time. Now I am ready to become a Unity user
I have a 3d animation game company in Lima-Peru, we use Torque, Quest3D and a propietary engine. We are making a game with q3d but also we are going to work in a game tool that uses 60% of the code of our game. There is a big chance to make this tool with Unity and maybe also move our game to Unity. I am presenting my game in a separate post:
I would like to know where I should start with Unity. I ask because there are a lot of resources and I don’t know whrere to start. I guess I should begin with the tutorials of the software itself rather than the resources in the web, but I would like to hear from an expert.
I also have a question about Iphone publishing. I need to make an Iphone application (like a small game), and I need to work on it ASAP. I’ve watched the Iphone video, but I am confused about if it is a separate application or if it is just an add-on for publishing.
Don’t limit yourself to one or the other, both in concert will be extremely valuable. Definitely start with our documentation and tutorials, check out the Resources area in particular. Please note that there you’ll find tutorials, example projects, videos from our Unite conferences and more.
After that consider all of the following 3rd party learning resources:
The ability to publish to the iPhone is an add-on license to a base Unity license (so you buy Unity, then you buy a Unity iPhone add-on license). For now Unity and Unity iPhone are in fact separate applications but they share a single licenses. In the future we plan to collapse them into a single application, but for now they are separate. Please keep in mind that Unity iPhone is available for use on Mac OS X only as it requires XCode, Apple’s Mac-only dev tool.
Hay mucho hispanohablantes aquí en los foros si quisiera escribir en Español (la mayoría hablan Inglés). Por ejemplo:
Hey Tom, maybe you should make a sticky with all those links. It would be really handy to have all the links for 3rd party resources in one place… or is there one already which I missed? (A bit of a newbie here myself…)
Thank you Tom for the information. I am agree with making a sticky or maybe a separate section with all this useful resources you posted.
I know that there are a lot of resources in the forum with plugins and tutorials for Unity that you can buy separate. Maybe is a good idea to joint all in one place. Just like GarageGames. They have a section called ‘Add-ons’, in that section you can find Genre Kits, Tools, Art Packs, Books and games.
Regarding Unity iPhone, How different is from Unity application? I mean, I need to work on an Iphone project, so I will need to try and work with Unity iPhone, before Unity main application. Would that be a problem, or should I start with Unity and then Unity Iphone?
