finger drumming learning game. Can I Retrieve Midi signals from a midi controller?

hello all

So I am an extreme noob when it comes to unity. i have completed the first 2 tutorials Rolling a ball and space shooter with success. I just started the advanced stealth tutorial today and things are coming along nicely. While watching these videos I had a thought for the game that i want to make once i have completed the advanced tutorial. Is there any packages to import regarding retrieving midi signals from a midi controller. I have an idea for a guitar hero type of game for finger drumming style midi controllers and maybe keyboards. Possible tutorial type of “learning software/game”

I found a free one in the asset store but it was for 3.x something and im running the latest version. I tried to run the example and it failed. the one i found was titled “Simple Midi”. I would want to got the free route the least out of pocket the better.

The only thing that comes to my mind is Arduino:

As far as I know, you can push signals from Arduino to Unity.
But if you don’t want a custom input source, that’s probably overkill.

I think there should be Midi controllers packed with a SDK. I’m not so much on the sounding works, nor am I a developper so I don’t know if it’s ok with your project, but a quick google search and I’ve found this : Sixense App SDK

Here’s a wrapper that could be used to create plugins for Unity, if you know how:
