First attempt at low poly character, need feedback/criticism

Started a thread a few weeks back about voxels someone suggested low poly so I decided to look more in to that instead. I’ve used Blender for a couple of years now…

I modeled it after me. I’ve modeled in the

past but…anyway what do you guys think of this style?

Kawaii yo! Very cute.

it looks really good
something about the colors and the kinda low detail looks really good

the hands seem kinda super thin?? but its not really a bad thing… idk just a thing i noticed i guess

do the socks have many more polys, to make it seem more circular? or it just looks that way?
maaaybe make it less circular… i mean, if it has waay more edges than any other part
not that circle is bad, but, if it has like 20 sides but the legs have like 6 sides, it might seem weird/out of place
… but actually i cant tell at all so it like doesnt matter LOL

… just trying to think of some kinda advice lol, dunno if any of that is an actual real problem or anything

Stylistically - this is not the type of art or game I enjoy, however as an artist I can look at it objectively. The model would probably look better with a toon shader instead of totally flat shaded. It totally flattens the 3D model completely, and to me is unattractive.
With a toon shader the model would have at least 2 shades per color, a light and dark - so it would give more volume to the model, keeping the 3D look a little better.

As far as the model itself goes - separate from the style, there are a number of things that could be improved upon. I’ll just point out some of them, without detailing how to fix - cause that is the fun artists job.
Providing a wire frame view would be useful to get feedback on the model.

  • Ears are lacking detail - even in this style.
  • Usually this style has smooth(er) details in the face even if they are low poly models. The eyes look too low poly.
  • The collar at the neck is too - flat/straight.
  • There is a bulge at the arm pit which should not be there.
  • Arm flows straight into the hand. Wrists should have more geometry so it looks more like a wrist.
  • Hands look too low poly and fingers seem too thin.
  • I think you did well on proportions, although her arms/hands might be a little short.
  • There is a bulge in her arms - where there should be a joint (elbow).
  • Consider breaking up the symmetry with her hair and maybe a texture that isn’t mirrored on her body.

It looks nice dude.
Just add in, a slight tiny bit more detail.
Not too much, just a tiny bit.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll go back in there and try to fix it, I may post wireframe later on.

Thank you.

The socks, I think I extruded them then I alt scaled it to give it more depth. I learned that from a tutorial I watched a while back. But thanks for the reply.

I should have prefaced my response - I’ve been a Lead Animator/Artist for nearly 17 years at multiple companies, so I get paid to critique 3D artwork on a daily basis.

Hope my feedback wasn’t too harsh and you see where improvement can be made. Will watch out for your next update.
