After around 4 months of development, I have officially released Roll Out. It is now live on Wooglie here Domain name for sale - M2H. I also intend to submit it to several other game portals. Not sure what my next game will be, but sure as heck it’ll be developed with Unity.
Great job!
How was your experience with Wooglie and integration? Did you integrate their backend at all or just put up a vanilla Unity game? I have not yet rolled anything out on that portal and so I am curious to know what your experiences were.
I don’t believe that Wooglie has an API (if they do, it wasn’t well advertised during the game submission process).
It was pretty good. I recommend placing a button on your GUI for picking up, dropping, and possibly even braking. Didn’t play past the first two levels so I don’t know if there was anything else.
Then I am probably mistaken. I was under the impression, not sure why, that they had the usual high score tables and advertising stuff.
You were probably thinking of Kongregate.
I honestly had it stuck in my head that Wooglie had some back-end integration going on and I cannot for sure say why. I probably am confusing it with another portal, but I don’t think I could ever confuse anything with Kongregate…
Anyway, how did your game submission go? I know you’ve only just done it, but curious to know what kind of stats (plays, average play time, etc) that you are seeing both in your first week, first month, and then three months out to see where the drop off cliff for downloads/plays is.
Wooglie seems to have a reasonably clean site that isn’t overly cluttered with crappy physics based games and tower defense clones (like Kongregate can be at times) but I know it doesn’t quite get the traffic of Kongregate at this time.
Unfortunately I don’t have exact stats on the game for each portal, but I can provide a few details:
After submitting my game to Wooglie I got very, very few plays. Something like 30 per day in the first week and then it dropped off significantly once my game got pushed off of the “new games” list on the homepage.
For Kongregate I got few plays (maybe 50 per day?) in the start due to lots of gameplay issues. After I fixed most of the stuff the plays per day and time spent playing increased quite dramatically. It’s now averaging around 600 plays per day from Kongregate which is good enough for me at the moment
I personally don’t recommend Wooglie mainly due to the fact that they have a 17 MB file size limit (Kongregate has a 21 MB limit), the not so elegant site design, and the moderately low traffic to games that aren’t in the top 3. Of course, this is just my opinion - I certainly don’t want to discourage you from submitting your game to Wooglie
Anyways, in an effort to not stray off the original topic of the thread, the game is really fun and the environment really suits the tire theme. I’m not sure, but I don’t believe that I saw a blob shadow (or any kind of shadow) for the tire. It never hurts to add that into the game :). Another thing is that clicking restart after a while got a bit tiresome (kept dying in one of the first levels). Maybe an auto-respawn/restart is in order? Nice job overall.
Thanks for the information. Information is never discouragement. It is very much curiousity and valuable research. Wooglie for me is a third tier web platform, trailing a large distance behind platforms such as Facebook, Google Games and Yahoo! or even the second tier of Kongregate (ooh! Look! Another “snake” game) and Shockwave.com and others.
When I said “clean” I meant clean as in not a whole lot of utterly crappy snake/tower defense/match 3/physics rider games cluttering up the website. Wooglie could use a creative refresh on their front-end, it has been quite a while since launch for the problems and bugs to shake out of the current design for them to have a handle on what needs to be fixed.
As of about 5 minutes ago, there are 125 or so total plays, at around 30 a day. Yes, not much. I do intend to submit to other portals (school is in the way right now) eventually, but I wanted to support Wooglie. They aren’t going to grow if no one uses them! Also, Wooglie has no API right now, just to clarify.
Thanks much for the feedback. The autorespawn is a excellent idea. Makes sense, as restart is what people will click the vast majority of the time and the same context menu can be accessed by pausing.
Also, there is no shadowing of any kind. I’ll think about adding it, as blob shadows seem really simple to implement.
I’ll ask you a question, carbon: what kind of revenue are you getting of kongregate? I heard it was very hard to earn over the $2 mark per day. Is that true?
