I am somewhat new to Unity, and 3D games in general, and was hoping someone might be willing to clear up a little of my confusion between Opsive’s UFPS and First Person Controller. Of the two, it seems like First Person Controller is the better choice, however, many of the UFPS tutorials I’ve seen discuss specific features I am looking for. My question is; does First Person Controller have the exact same features as UFPS, plus a few extras? Basically, if I purchased First Person Controller, would I be able to follow the exact steps of a UFPS tutorial?
@opsive can probably point you to a feature comparison table.
I have worked with previous versions of both. They hog layers like I ain’t never seen. Do not set up your physx layers before you import either of these. If you need a CC with coupled camera/s then piece one together with the controls you require for your unique version for your game.
Thanks @TonyLi !
Yes, it does. The First Person Controller includes melee weapons whereas UFPS does not. All of the documentation/videos are the same though for all of the controller variants since they share the same code base. There is a feature comparison table within this thread .
Version 2 was completely rewritten from version 1. In version 2 there is a layer manager which allows you to specify what layers that you want to use.
Thank you for your reply. That is exactly what I wanted to know prior to making a purchase.
When clicking “Learn More” on First Person Controller from the Opsive site, then scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking “Documentation”, the top of the documentation page reads “Ultimate Character Controller”. Which added a little more confusing for me, as the Ultimate Character Controller is a different asset.
Again, thank you for your reply. I am looking forward to testing out this product.
