Hello! I’m new here and after a lot of work finally finished my Cave Rocks Kit asset! Starting price at $40
Over 100 man-hours of quality modelling have created this package :). That saves you easily a $1000 worth of paying an employee to create such work!
I wan’t my customers to have the best experience possible with my asset, so if you have any problems shoot me a message. And, if you think the price is too high please suggest a better price here.
If you have any suggestions for me to make any other types of assets please contact me! Here’s another link to my asset description page http://chadtravis.com/CaveRocksKit
And posting in the correct sections would also help. Since from what I gather from your post, you made a asset store package. Then posting it in the Asset Store section of the forum would be helpful with what Fishman92 said about pictures, and anything that can get people interested in what you did.
Is someone who wants a rock pack going to search for anything like “First Store Submission”? If they stumble past it, is that title going to get their attention? Probably not. And at worst that title might even be a turnoff for many.
As Fish said, pictures are a must, especially given that this is an art asset. (Though considering that pictures are currently buggy on these forums, maybe you did post some and I just can’t see them.)
Basically, think about the type of person who will want to buy your pack, and then write and provide images that tell them and show them things that they will find interesting and which demonstrate to them the value of your product. Look critically at everything you write/show in a sales pitch, imagine that someone was pitching it to you, and for every item ask yourself “Does this add credibility?” and “Does this demonstrate value?” If one of the answers is yes, keep it. If they’re both “no” then you’re wasting valuable, scarce attention time.
But I don’t think the forum section is a big deal, since even well established people post Asset Store stuff in here too.
Thank you guys so much, I am really grateful that the community here is kind and respectful. I guess I can see now that this post could easily get flamed but it didn’t. I cannot thank you guys enough.
I hope to improve over time with this stuff, as I said initially - this is my first time trying this stuff and I am still learning how it all works (albeit not my first time modeling, I believe my pack to be decent quality).
I usually never post in forums so I figure I’ll do stupid things for now.
Anyways, I reposed this in the right forum with a better title. But, googling around I see that it’s probably not a good idea to do caps either, heh. Will not be doing that next time…
Tip #1 - adding a video to the page of an ecommerce site can increase conversions by up to 80%
Tip #2 - when you post about your asset in the forum, the forum is now an ecommerce site, or at least part of it
Tip #3 - if you can’t add video, a webplayer is also great, or do both!
Tip #4 - at the very least you must show some screenshots of your asset - it doesn’t matter if it’s just a tool or editor extension or doesn’t even produce graphics, make it visual and people can get a feel for exactly what it is, even if you show a picture of some sourcecode
Tip #5 - list the various BENEFITS that your asset has to the customer, what problems will it solve for them. Raise their awareness of its various merits and how those merits will help them. But make sure to do it through their eyes and not what you want them to think of you.
Tip #6 - especially if your asset is a model or texture or something visual, make sure you show us at least a picture of it - it’s a no brainer. People won’t buy something based on how it looks if they can’t see it.
Tip #7 - don’t lead off by saying “this is my first asset store submission”. Think of how people are going to be looking through the forum thread index and how to catch their attention to get them to even open up your discussion. Put some significant keywords in the thread title. Lead off with a bang!
Tip #8 - make the price obvious and don’t try to hide it, and make sure the link to go to the asset is obvious, accompanied by a call to action that doesn’t say click here for my asset.
Tip #9 - don’t waffle on about your worried, concerns and fears and tentativeness in developing the asset and how uncertain you are - this will make people lose confidence in you. Be confident in your work and proud of what you’ve done.
Tip #10 - don’t be manipulative, don’t tell people they have to rate you 5 stars and if not, to email you first. Their opinion of you is theirs, not yours, and if they tell you your asset sucks you need to listen and make improvements. But don’t start off the bat by putting up defenses because it tells people you’re anticipating bad ratings which undermines the confidence of your presentation. Let people vote how they want to. It’s okay to ask for ratings and reviews, but don’t try to manipulate them.
Tip #11 - you’ve got some quite nice screenshots on your asset store page. But none of them have any text on them. Take the opportunity to put a few words in people’s mouths, add a caption at least on each to explain what we’re looking at and to increase our engagement, otherwise it’s too passive. And put those screenshots in this thread.
Tip #12 - don’t ask people to please support me, it makes you sound desperate. People will support you IF your asset is genuinely useful and good value, without any need to beg for it. Be honest and let the audience decide if they will support you or not.
Tip #13 - when you talk about what has gone into making the asset, the hours you put in, the work you did, etc, you made it sound a bit whiney and guilt-inducing. Instead, identify the key selling points that come from that background instead of making it your sob-story. You could more clearly say “Over 100 man-hours of quality modelling have created this awesome package”, for example.
Tip #14 - people who are customers don’t want to hear about the efforts you had to go through to set up a website and other background stuff like that. They want to hear about the finished product mostly and how it will benefit them. Get a clear separation between which parts of your presentation are about you, from the inside, behind the scenes, and which parts are seen and useful from an external perspective.
Tip #15 - ignore long lists of tips from other people if it doesn’t work for you
