Fixed My Unity 4.2 Crashes - Mac OSX 10.7.5 (bug report 553252)

I have found that the reason Unity 4.2 always crashed on my system was incompatibility with the following plugin:

http://scplugin.tigris.org

After I removed this plugin Unity 4.2 works fine!!!

If you have this issue and want to remove SCPlugin, you need to delete:

/Library/Contextual Menu Items/SCFinderPlugin.plugin
/Library/Receipts/SCPlugin.pkg
/Applications/SCToolbarButton

Then from the Terminal:

launchctl remove org.tigris.scplugin.launch

Note: The plugin is not gone and the Trash cannot be emptied until you Log out or Restart

Cheers

I was going to walk away from Unity because of this continuous crashes, but this tip has completely fixed this frustrating situation on OSX 10.8.4.

Thank you!

I don’t have the plugin and still crashes (10.8.4)

Hello,

Have you got any other plugins in /Library/Contextual Menu Items/

maybe they could be causing the problem?

Cheers

 thank you so much!!!

You can’t be serious…

I love you gruddlebug, I have been stuck using unity 4.1.5 (And all of my team too) due to this incompatibility.

I didn’t even realise I had this SCPlugin installed!

THANK YOU!!!

How did you figure out it was SCPlugin?

Worked like a charm! 10.9.2 compatibility has never been smoother! Thank you

You sir, are my personal internet hero of the day!
This fixed my problem of exporting/importing packages which caused Unity to freeze when selecting a directory.
That’s gone now and everything works fine.

Thanks a ton!

Thanks alot!
I was facing this issue from almost 6 months :frowning:
You saved me! Owe you alot!

This fix worked for me. Currently using Unity 4.5.1.

How in the world was this figured out? I’ve been dealing with a crashing Unity for almost a year now. I was trying to give Unity as much info as I could on it, but I never felt like I got anything useful.

How would one even go about troubleshooting to find this? I’d love to know!

out of curiousity, I too would like to know how you were able to narrow down the cause of the crashes to this specific plugin?

Yes! Thank you Thank you Thank you. I installed that so long ago I forgot about it. Removed it and everything works like a charm.

Unity: 4.5.2f1
MacOSX: 10.8.5

You are a REAL HERO ! Thank you so much for this ! More than one year having Unity crashing on my macbook pro !! And I fixed this in 30sec thanks to you  I don’t know how you did find this but THANKS !

This also works for me (Unity 4.6.2f1 / Yosemite 10.10.2), but I struggled finding how to fix this because the SCPlugin wasn’t installed on my session but on another one. So I logged in to this other session, I removed the plugin, restarted and now all crashes and bugs are gone !

IN ENGLISH : Hello everyone.
I raise the subject because I just bought the Unity Pro license 5 and unfortunately I lost all my hair because the crash software every time I want to open a project.
I’m handling typos, opening in Administrator mode, the mode “-force-opengl”, etc …
But nothing!

I finally found the problem with using Unity support!
This is potentially the solution to your problem!

  • Uninstall the Audio Driver Current (Realtek for me)
  • Disconnect any USB jacks and taken to a connected audio system
  • Restart the computer
  • Reinstall the latest audio driver
  • Reconnected all
  • Replace or raise Unity

Best Regards,
Jimmy
