(Fixed) Terrain Visualization not working

Hi.

I’m having an error when trying to use the “Terrain Visualization” tool from unity’s terrain tool
I’m using 2022 LTS HDRP

Error:
Shader error in ‘Hidden/HDRP_TerrainVisualization’: ‘GetSurfaceAndBuiltinData’: output parameter ‘surfaceData’ not completely initialized at Project’s Name/Library/PackageCache/com.unity.terrain-tools@5.0.3/Shaders/Visualization/HDRP/HDRP_TerrainVisualizationData.hlsl(148) (on d3d11)

The terrain completely disappear when i turn “altitude heatmap” option but came back when is “none”

Also, it looks like i’m not he one with that bug and it is a pretty old bug but i did not find any solution…
Is this fixed?

so… anybody?

I’m facing the same error and I can’t find a solution for it anywhere, I even downloaded a plugin to try to overcome this deficiency in the terrain system, but so far without satisfactory results. the worst part is that even changing versions the error still persists, very complicated.

How or where can i check if this bug was fixed or ignored?
As you can see, in this link:–
the last message was: "Your bug report has been updated"
That was: 08/Oct/23 7:09 AM

After that, nothing has happened, at least not that i know, not even a mail. There are some links but the info is basically the same, i check some release notes on 2022.X and i found nothing about “Altitude Heatmap” (i was using the “find text” option on my browser.

It may be annoying to have an issue ignored, so i will try to help. I never saw this error before… but already experienced several shader errors (principally because im bad on them XD), so i could say that PERHAPS (im not a so experienced guy, and never got this error before) the terrain issue is because of this shader error. Shader errors can:

  • make material forcedly use fallback shader (if you have something like “fallback Diffuse” in your .shader file, Diffuse is fallback shader)
  • make material pink or
  • make material invisible (perhaps due to rendering error).

i found conent here that may be usefull: Terrain Visualization | Terrain Tools | 5.0.4 and a png https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.terrain-tools@5.0/manual/images/4-41-toolbox-heatmap-01.png, altough you may have seen the docs.

my friend and headache saver ChatGPT pinpointed some initialization issues, but as this is an error from terrain tools package or a visualization glitch (as shader error points to terrain tools internal files), is advisable for you to report a bug with unity bug report tool. Unity pros, ops and devs may be more helpfull to you than me

question: which plugin?

Looks like it was fixed, pushed in version 5.0.4 (i don’t know exactly what that means), which i guess is Unity 2022.3.20f1.
