Flightwind: Multiplayer online Dragon MMO

Flightwind is a Dragon mmo with many great opportunities.
This concept started with a model, yes! Just a basic Blender model!

Now this is what Flightwind is… just an unfinished dragon model waiting to get into Unity 3d!

CHARACTERS: You can customise every aspect of your character, colors, markings, shape, head, tail, tallness, neck length, tail length, claw and fang length, wing size, feathers or scales, feather/bat combined wings, even determine if your dragon will have elbow membranes on the wings!
After character creation you can choose to be an unborn egg, or adult. The adult female dragon players will choose an egg if they decide to mate at maturity. (no mating animation, and sometimes mating fails.) once you are born, you will play as an unhatched egg, but you are playing as yourself inside your own dream!!! this dream lasts until you hatch, then you are dependant on your parent players.

as you grow, you will notice small wisps called Auras. if you eat one, you will gain a character or skill point based on the color. you can also gain points through killing large prey. Character points give you extra things to add to your character, such as horns, spikes, tailpieces and fins! Skill points give you higher levels of the skills you select.
These are the skills:
Fire breath: level 1 is sparks, you get this skill available to level at juvenile stage.
Flight: you can grow this skill at fledgeling stage, the stage just before juvenile. 1st level is gliding
Roar: Scare off Large predators and other players!!! each roar will be louder and scarier than the last! from a squeak to a deafening shriek! grow this skill at Adult.
Swimming: dragons are able to swim from the time they hatch! but you can swim faster if you grow this skill, good for getting away from dangerous Thunderbirds!
Climbing: some dragons can train themselves to climb steep surfaces before they are able to fly, this skill is available at hatchling, but stops developing once you get level 4 flight.
Power: your dragon can bite, claw, and lash its tail with more power and speed! great for PVP!

[if you start the game as an adult, all of these stats are at level 2 from the beginning, max level for ALL stats is 30, so auras are rare]

Maturity, mating, and aging:

In order to mate, you must be a mature adult. Contrary to most animals, the female is the dominant power of dragons. She is larger, and stronger. males watch females dance in the air. then two females will clash and do an aerial battle! the loser player usually cannot mate until the next real time day. but the winner dragon gets to choose her partner. There, they do the dance of the sky. which is a dance that is graceful and yet powerful. the dragons twist around upward in the air, and let go of each other then dive down in opposite directions, then they do a loop to each other.

The female will usually be pregnant for 3 to 6 real days. bearing a player character. when choosing a player, you can see their full body image on the selection screen, and you can have up to 4 players to choose. it will just be harder to feed them… (which will be discussed later.)

If your dragon gets old, which happens after two years of playing, you will no longer be able to mate. and will most likely be a loner. These are the dragons that hoard treasure, and eat humans. because they are too old to fight other dragons. you die 5 weeks later, and you start again as a new dragon.

FOOD AND THIRST

Of course, everything needs to eat and drink to survive, which means hunting. Dragons are carnivores, so you must find suitable prey to eat. Elk, moose, bear, baby elephant, and porpoises are good food for an adult. fledgeling and juvenile dragons can hunt too, but fledglings are still dependant on the parents to get larger food. hatchlings are fed much like birds.

If you eat a large prey until it is gone, all that is left is a skeleton, which you can use to build nests. although dragons don’t really need a nest. (nests are most likely used to show off?)

Water is essential for a dragon. if you can’t find water, you will die. so you need to stay in a temperate or tropical area if you want to be happy. arctic areas don’t count unless you are a water dragon. Water dragons and ice dragons are the same thing. they just live in different areas of the world. so if you are a water dragon, you can eat ice and be able to survive.

RP (Roleplay)

Of course this wouldn’t be an MMORPG without players to roleplay with! so you can turn off hunger and thirst in roleplay mode, just so you don’t need to take breaks frequently. you can leave hunger and thirst on though if you want a realistic roleplay.

If you would like to help me with this EPIC dragon mmorpg. Contact me and we can set up a team.

More features will be thought up eventually!!!

Oh boy… I hope you prepare yourself for what’s about to come(not from me though). Personally I enjoyed the read, It sounds very interesting! Reminds me an awful lot of Grow. Here’s their kickstarter where you can view information about the game: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1699494454/grow-an-online-class-based-brawler

Now I’m not implying anything… But it took them a team of four experienced team members and it probably took them a marked amount of time to get to what you can see in the demo video.

I know it will take A TON of work. But I’m just hoping I stay dedicated

To be brutally honest, for the things you’re planning, there’s a 99% chance with a 1% margin of error that you won’t. Most likely not just because of a lack of motivation, not directly at least, but due to a lack of expertise and/or sheer manpower. If you throw out the MMO part there might be a higher chance. Either way, just pick one aspect of your concept and start developing it and I’m sure you’ll soon start getting a much clearer indication of the entailments of such a project and you’ll be able to make much more realistic and attainable plans after experiencing the difficulties.

I agree. One of the best things to do I would recommend is go into it thinking of it as purely a game. Just a single player experience built for yourself and turn it into a multiplayer later. It’s hard enough to stay hooked into smaller projects as it is for most. But this way you are building towards your end goal without stressing yourself out about the hardships of making something so big.

Yeah… I might make a 3d cartoon microbe breeding game similar to SPORE’s cell stage anyway…

nice concept, will definitely want to see it out on the market
