Wy we doing this?! is simple! i´m a japanese descendent and have brothers, parents and friends there! any help is wellcome and if you can share in you social networks!
I’m sure, and I don’t doubt for a second that you’re doing this for the right reasons. But you DO understand it could very easily look like you’re trying to piggyback a terrible event to boost your own sales?
You might be better off making a feature on your site or somewhere that lets people donate to registered charities and the red cross directly. Completely avoids Apple taking a cut then.
we pratically donating all incoming, 0.99 cents - 30% of apple - bank charges i think is 4.5% taxes in brazil 14.5% is basically 50% of the game value!
A) People tend not to donate for the sake of donation; if they get something out of it (like a Game/App) then they’re more likely to spend…
B) You have to make money to survive… 50% of your own take is like making a donation yourself…
C) Even if he was an evil snake oil selling man trying to boost sales by slapping HELP JAPAN on the side of the box; wouldn’t it still be HELPING JAPAN?
If I could take 50% of my regular income and donate it to that cause I would in a heartbeat but I can’t. If I could get on a plane and go help I would; but I can’t because I have obligations here too (as do the rest of us in our own lives).
I think everyone wins in a situation like this. Most importantly, the game will most likely sell more copies so more money is donated to help japan. He could’ve easily just donated sales that were already made, the only difference is that doing that would most likely mean a smaller amount donated to help japan(and no one would’ve complained about him doing that). So what if he gets a little extra exposure out of it. At least he’s making an attempt to help out. There’s thousands of other developers doing nothing, so I don’t see a problem with him attempting to raise the largest amount he can possibly raise. After all, he said basically 100% of the money that would normally end up in his pocket will go to japan. So while his game may bring in more sales, the real winners are the ones that need help in japan.
Eta:
In a perfect world apple would allow a developer to donate 100% of sales directly to help, but the world obviously isn’t perfect or there would be no need for this thread in the first place.
