Font texture unreadable

I posted a question about this on answers which also links to the same question asked earlier for which the solution no longer seems to apply. But answers seems to be a less than effective tool of late.

I want to read from a font texture, I couldn’t change the settings on the default Arial font so I downloaded a free font pack from the store. Now I have a font, it can be set to UTF8 or ASCII and it shows the characters in the font texture preview window. But when the code tries to access it it gets an error saying the texture is not readable and import settings need to be changed. Font textures don’t have their own import settings, fonts have their own import setting which have no readability flag.

Can anyone explain how to make it readable?

Choose “create editable copy” in the gear menu.

Make your own font, with your own font texture!
Theres tools to help you do this.

Thank you

I couldn’t find any create editable copy option, neither on texture nor on New Font. Can you please take a screenshot, so i could understand. Please…

Then on texture set “Read/Write Enabled”

I don’t have any “Create Editable Copy” option on gear. I just have Reset. Is this available in Unity 4 or Unity 3.5. Btw. i am using Unity 3.5.

Unity 4. You don’t need to use “create editable copy” in Unity 3.5.
