For any game devs thinking Unity Forums is beneficial to your games, think again ...

This post will most likely be deleted, but it is true if you want to dev a game. It has nothing to do with my post, but is instead a general idea for you to abide by in the future.

… I have learned, posting info about anything other than a game dev tool here is absolutely 100% useless…

… Unless you have made the next NGUI, you have no business here, this forum general topic idea is nothing but topics for game devs to discuss game dev tools. this was my downfall, don’t let it be yours. There is nothing here for you unless you are releasing a game dev tool on the asset store that 1,000 hopeful game devs would use. I have used not game assets except for NGui and Ngui MiniMaps by NinjaGames, there is nothing here for you, I have to create from the bottom up.

This topic is for Steam Greenlight, (www.goo.gl/A8RypL) I have posted, I have already had over 5k plus votes in only 2 days, I have had over 40,000 beta testers on Kongregate.com. This is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to the feed back you will receive here, in unity forums. Unless you have an astronomical game that only comes once ever 5 years, don’t expect any good feedback from anyone on the Unity forums. They will berate you.

This is more of a success story than a forum post, we have had better feedback on almost all platforms OTHER THAN UNITY FORUMS. Do not think “FOR A SECOND” that you should post your game here. This forum is nothing but a place for washed up game devs to relinquish what they always wished for, but instead drifted towards AAA game studios that paid them $25 / hr, what I can make at the local car wash.

Don’t be discouraged, this is my 25th game that I have made, this is absolutely nothing, but be encouraged to think, you can make what you want, whether it is Unity3d or another game engine. Peace be to you, this post means nothing.

This is my Tribute to SkiFree, my favorite computer game I played as a young teenager (12 years old is teenager, right?) on a 386 on Windows 3. SkiFree - Wikipedia from 1991 (I tell my kids about the nineties, they think it is a different century, but wait, it really is, I’m soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo old.) I made this game because I wanted to, because I remember how much fun I had playing the pre-cursor. This was not a monetary investment, this was not a game that was made to make money. This was a game made purely by myself, and (one artist who drew absolutely everything using the pen tablet he bought 1.5 years ago(a purchase dreamed of for 15 years as a graphic artist (yes not all artists have the capability to spend $100 USD on a pen tool))), to remake the game we played as kids, just to have fun. The goal in this game is to have fun, you will not find this game produced by a AAA studio with millions of dollars, this game was made with maybe $500, over 1.5 years from it’s roots, and over 300 variations of the game. The goal was to make it like the game we played as kids, which was nothing but fun, not to make a game where you play and you see hours of cinematic footage from actors. This game is yours, it is what you make it, it is your own universe. The skillset and advancement system is completely custom to each player.

Fully Physics Based Gameplay. Have you ever thought it was possible to go 500 MPH (800 km/h) down a hill on a sled? What about 3,000 MPH (5,000 km/h)? Well, now is your chance to experience it.

This is an adventure game, think of Zelda, don’t think of 1080 or SSX. This is NOT a sports game, if you are looking to be the next Tony Hawks, or Shawn White here, than you should be looking at another game.

This game has had almost 40,000 beta testers! Virtually all requests from players have been added to the game. There is something for everyone here. The controls were top priority for this game. More focus has been spent on game play than anything else. Graphics, come last. The goal is to just have fun.

(This game was made by ONLY 2 PEOPLE, through blood, sweat, tears, lack of sleep, a lot of energy drinks and angry family, friends that didn’t hear from us for over a year; from sound music, to programming, art, marketing, video production, animation, etc, etc, etc, etc.)

Of the 75% of games on greenlight which are not-ready to be sold, we are happy to say that this game is ALREADY 100% COMPLETE, ready to deliver for everything we promised. There is no second guessing this game. We have already invested our own time and money into this game, without any publishers, with absolutely “ZERO FUNDS”, we made this game as an indie, through blood sweat and tears. What you see is what you get, for everything that we promised. This game is ready for PRIME-TIME, within 24 hours, no pipe-dreams here.

***** This game will be your private JOY, that you won’t tell anyone about, it will be you reliving your childhood for hours on end. That’s tough since the developer won’t get satisfaction of people sharing this game, and you won’t tell anyone you are sledding down a mountain for fun (maybe you youtubers let’s players will say this, but most adults won’t. This is your FUN, this is your life, this is what you dreamed of.) Trust me, you won’t put this game down after 2 hours, you will replay it again and again. (**this was a comment by a game play reviewer, not mine) ******

Congratulations on your steam portal progress, sadly that is where the celebration of success ends.

Now perhaps focus on the lack of wisdom to write a post in this nature… Next time , as tempting as it is , think first and then … dont do it. I mean you even made mention of what you are busy writing been deleted which means you knew that you were possibly not behaving in an acceptable manner yet continued to do so.

Can i get the number for you neighborhood carwash?

I can see the value in a post like this, it’s a little heavy on the pessimism but the underlying message is true.

If you want to get your game noticed, the unity forum is not the place to do it, there are mainly game dev’s here… you need to reach the gamers.

I posted details on our game ‘Monster Truck Destruction’ awhile ago, a game that is doing great on iOS, Google Play Amazon but the response here was mediocre. The reason? Our game is designed for gamers not developers, there is nothing really technical (besides maybe our damage system) that developers can find interesting.

So… thank you ZorNieD, I will now have to investigate Kongregate as a BETA testing platform, that’s something I haven’t thought of before.
