Forcing Terrain basemapDistance beyond 2000

I’m trying to create a large terrain which will be viewed from a great distance.
The problem is that terrain.basemapDistance is locked to the range 0-2000. This is a deal breaker for me and I haven’t found a way to overcome this.

Somebody had earlier suggested to force it by code, setting the basemapDistance on every Update(). Unfortunately this doesn’t work. Is there any way to force a longer basemapDistance?

AFAIK, there is no way.
