Forum search function

Is it me, or the search button has been severely damaged? I used to have no problems with the old interface, but the new one… Most times I can’t find anything related at all with my search. Just look for ‘coroutine AI’ and try!

The problems (at least for me) is that it looks, by default, in entire posts, instead of titles only. Sure, you can click on search and configure that… but then the quick search button is a little bit useless!

Moreover, for some reason, short words are removed by default. So if you look for AI, FPS or things like that, it simply ignores that word. It seems you have to write it like “AI” or something like that…

May be it’s just me, but it’s the first time I need help with a search function in a forum!

I second this. It’s almost a useless feature in this board…

Another approach is to use Google to perform the search: Google’s Advanced Search on Unity Forums

I usually do it by hand with the site:// keyword out of habit, but yeah google will always beat a built in forum software’s indexing hands down.

i liked the old search system better too. Because now when i search for example “fog of war” it shows error but in old system it worked well

Google toolbar installed + there is a button “search current site”. That is also very convenient for Unity answers, Unity docs and also for searching non unity related sites.

And sometimes you want to search whole thing, your question could be answered in the answers or forum thread or docs…

The search index probably needs to include shorter words (although adding all two-letter words isn’t feasible, except for manual additions like “AI”). I’ll see about rebuilding it early this week to include 3-letter words.

I disagree that the default search should be title-only; most threads are named poorly, and you’re searching a much smaller amount of information by searching titles alone.
