do the forums feel faster to you?
Where is the “who cares, now I even get a page telling me to reload far too often” option?
FWIW, “jdavid” there is Justin, the guy we have working behind the scenes on things like, oh, proper long term forum improvements! (and our website, blogs, site publishing process improvements, etc.).
So please be sure to take his poll very seriously!
Oh, and I’m moving this out of Announcements and into Gossip where it will get more eyeballs.
Since yesterday the forums have been responding here like they used to, 2+ years ago. Which is nice!

Yeah, the last couple of months there seemed to be a 5 second delay for opening subforums and threads, which is gone now. Mind you, this is also the first time in months that I’m browsing from within Ubuntu, so I’ll have to check in windows.
Good work though, that delay was a major annoyance.
That though is true for the cases where I’m not greeted by the “please reload” page (“dynamic load balancer by not generating any load”)
@Higgy / Justin: I’m sure you do and it seems that the recent work at least temporally cured it.
If the solution works for long term will have to be seen (we have had two cases in the past year where it got faster to then drown again after a few days …)
Justin is going through all of our various systems, including the forums, and finding ways to tidy up the processes, do things more efficiently, etc. All this is being done while in the background longer term heavier-duty plans are being laid as well. So he’s still new on the job (hired in January) and he has a pretty hefty to-do list, but he’s on it and he’s here to get things in shape. The previous attempts at speed improvement weren’t done by folks dedicated to the job so fixes were made and then their attention was diverted elsewhere. Now we have someone focused and skilled at these things so I’m confident we’ll start seeing long term solid improvements.

It sure see a lot faster now
It never really was too slow for me. There were a few times it was really bad but never more that a couple minutes.
However, now that never happens and it is even a little faster than it was. Enough of a difference to make a nice change.

It sure seems to be much faster to me. Before it felt like I was on dial-up, now it’s back to high speed! Thanks for the great work Justin!
