Found a Similar game!

Today I found a game about to be released that is very similar to the game I am in the beginning stages of creating… Should I continue my game or scrap it all together and start new?

There’s always a game that is going to be similar yours, because multiple people get the same idea.
However, the end product is going to be different due to details.

Basically, it shouldn’t really matter if they’re doing similar thing. Keep that in mind and decide accordingly.

Learn from this ‘similar’ game and see how reviews play out, or try the game yourself and if any of the mechanics are similar to yours then determine how you can make said (complaints, reviews and mechanics) better in your game.

Don’t worry about whether it’s ethical - it’s smart. Ethics and smarts don’t always cross the same bridge. Learn from people’s mistakes and better yours through theirs. And trust me - there is always going to be a complaint about any game. So go find them and try your best to alleviate them.

Keep in mind I’m not saying it’s unethical to do this either, but there seems to be this unspoken bond between indies to not step on their spot out of respect by being indie’s. Whilst I understand, at the same time I don’t - because a business would fall off the foundations if businesses stopped what they were doing because of competition. Go out and make it your mission to do it better, not just a little bit better but a lot better and making it a driving point for new consumers to come.
