(I posted this on the Unity support forum, but I didn’t get any answer. So, yes, this is a duplicate in case this is a better place to ask. Let me know if there is a more proper location for this question if not here! )
I am quite curious to know whether this is strictly “legal” (“OK” works too :))…
I have an entirely code-based asset which I would like to offer up for free, but I would also like to make the code available via github so that people can fork and contribute. At the same time, I’d like it to be available at certain milestone edits on the asset store as a free asset so that it gets proper exposure and it’s easy to update/install for those whom are not programming inclined.
Would this model be “OK” by Unity’s asset store standards and EULA? Or do I really need to pick one or the other?
Thanks for the reply! I heard that assets in the asset store fall under a defacto EULA and they you didn’t really have any control over the rights and restrictions. So I wanted to make sure that offering the same product on github wouldn’t be a conflict of interests.
The default EULA is a pretty friendly one. I’m not sure if there is a unique one for free assets, but the normal one lets people who get it through the UAS use the asset for any number of products. Unless otherwise specified, there’s the possibility of sharing. They don’t restrict you from giving away or selling anything through your own store. Just look at all the models sold both here and on separate sites.
