Free Bryce cubemap solution

http://www.daz3d.com/ have got Bryce on for free download again, this time its the 5.5 version with functioning save dialog!
Also found a way of getting the necessary images for a cubemap out of Bryce here - Cubemaps in Bryce
Tried it and it works great, though a little trial and error is needed to get the pictures in the right slots.

just looked over their site but couldn’t find anything - is this free - as in can be used for anything? i can get skyboxes out of blender but its tedious.

For some reason if you follow my Daz link it sometimes goes to a page with an advert for hair at the bottom, if you refresh its replaced by the free bryce link!
It appears to be a full license, they do encourage you to upgrade to version 6 and buy content to make their money.

downloading now to check it out.

thanks for the heads up ; )

I remember getting Bryce for free from something like this a while back. But when I was getting my new iMac I forgot to copy it over. Downloading.

Its great that it runs on 10.4 now (So it says)

Ive had a lot of bad results doing skyboxes, but my fov was 90%. Seeing that other link makes me think 80degrees fov is the way to go. Anyone done good skyboxes w Bryce?

Its great for exporting terrain meshes for Unity. IMO we should all have it in our 3d kitchen.

I can’t wait to make some skyboxes so I don’t have to keep reusing Unity’s built-in ones. (Imagines Lava tracks in RaceCraft with a custom volcanic skybox).

Quick skybox, the camera is pointing straight at a corner so you can see its seamlessness.

I always used to get pinched corners, I was mainly trying to export a box using the default desert settings. Im quite sure it was something daft I was doing.

I look forward to trying this

In the sky lab there is a link clouds to view option as well as link sun to view. This seems to mess about with the position of the clouds so that may have been affecting things.

Thanks for the heads up on this! A great piece of software to get for free. Good job on the skybox too. You wouldn’t want to write up a brief how-to on making one in Bryce would you? (For those of us who are clueless (or close-to-clueless) at this point.)

Nevermind - answered before posted…

Here’s a good tutorial on how to set up Bryce to do skyboxes. One particular quirk mentioned in the tutorial is that you apparently need to use a 112.5° field of view to get a seamless skybox.

Thamks Heaps for the headsup on the FOV Neil-Im sure this will get me back on the skybox track…

I did a skybox like this. It turned out pretty nice, I think.

Thanks to HiggyB for putting it together and hosting it.

Yeh skybox is awesome out of Bryce… Especially if you make it hdri… Cam FOV needs to be set to 112.5 then render front view as 0,0,0 then rotate 90 degrees etc to get other views init…
I use 2048 by 2048 for each image and don’t forget in unity 6 sided skymap right seems to be left so switch them… Also set images to Clamp on import settings and trilinear

Seriously, this post is ten years old. You necro’d this thing so hard you may have disturbed to continuity of time itself.
