FREE C# / Unity Course for Absolute and/or Experienced Beginners

Hello!

I created a Unity and C# course for Microsoft MVP Bob Tabor’s new website DevU.com

The series is “Introduction to Unity with C#” and is geared to absolute beginners in coding/Unity and experienced beginners who might know a thing or two about C# and/or Unity but need help navigating it all and forming that all-important “mental model” of how everything works.

The course has been pretty successful so far. We got a lot of sign-ups and sales for it but we decided recently to make it 100% free. Basically, we just want eyeballs (no, we don’t advertise or host clickbait… there really is no catch).

So, to those interested… It’s a full-featured course. There are 65 lesson videos in total that cover C# fundamentals, Unity fundamentals all while constructing two 2D projects. One’s a top-down action game and the other is a physics-based platformer.

The whole course is arranged to be step-by-step. Great pains were taken to order everything correctly so that every lesson builds from the previous lesson(s).

You can watch all of the videos via https://www.devu.com/unity/ clicking on “View Lessons In This Course”

If you’re serious about taking the course, it’s recommended you sign-up (again, all free) to get access to downloadable project files for each lesson, assets, as well as be able to look at the FAQ, post questions to the Q&A and track your progress.

You can download the complete projects (with documentation) that you will be creating in the lessons, via the Unity Asset Store here:

PS> I’m actively supporting the course and answering questions in the DevU Q&A. If you have any questions at any point I would prefer to answer them there!

I’m an extreme case that is interested in checking this out.
I’ll report back on if this information can be relayed to and retained by a veteran non-coding artist.

Is it just me, or there is really no video there? (just text)

UPD: Found the sign-up link, which is very well hidden, — but it’s not FREE. It’s the yearly membership\subscription to the site.

…Though at the bottom of the site this course is listed as “text-course”… And if you click there all you basically get is transcripts of the videos without any particular structure… (which I’m not sure is usable on its own). So I’m baffled.

I think some confusion is going on here.

Judging by some snippets from youtube, this course is brilliant.

DevU vanished into the ashes and this course isn’t available on Bob Tabor’s new website!! Is there any way to access it!??

I’m thinking it may be not-so-good now. It’s video, 3 years old, which may mean it’s very specific to an older version of Unity. Even a few things in the wrong place throw off most video watchers – they watch them to see where to click, and so on. It would need to be re-recorded in the latest version, which may not be worth it. Posting it “as-is” may risk giving people a bad impression of the rest of the site.
