Free license

Hi, I’m a student. I have worked with Microsoft XNA (free license for students, non commercial projects). But these games (maked on XNA) can run only on WP. Has Unity free license for Android developing (for students, for free projects)?

P.S.: Sorry for my English.

The main purpose (in our small team case) to make free 3d game for tablet, not necessarily for Android, it can be Surface) I tried beta testing of Unity for WP (Windows phone) and saw a lot of bugs. XNA has less number of bugs, and it also can be compiled for PC and xBox ("...to build cross platform games..."). So, I think, I'll use XNA. Thanks everyone:) I haven't seen anything that make Unity better (to pay for some license) than XNA.

Best of luck - I'd expect a first version beta to have bugs myself - XNA is fine, but it's a very different proposition to Unity.

I used to program XNA until Microsoft announced they were no longer going to support XNA. Once I switched to Unity though, I found that the workflow is smoother, faster, more intuitive. I won't switch back even if Microsoft all of a sudden reversed direction on XNA. Unity is just plain better.

ok. I have read a lot of literature by this night. Now, I think, Unreal engine ($99) is best variant. Enreal engine is better then Unity and cheaper)

All the people who've switched to Unity probably disagree ;) Best of luck, as I said before!

There is a free license for everyone for Unity Free - you can use Pro for non commercial purposes by purchasing a discounted student license from Studica

Unity Free (not Pro) haven`t access to Android building... It ask me to buy a license ($400) for Adroid. License from Studica - $298. As I understand in any way I should buy some license (even the project is non commercial)? In this case I can't understand - who will use paid Unity for WP if they can use free XNA?

Anyone who wants to learn how to build cross platform games with a single code base.

XNA doesn't target Android. Further, Unity has a free version if it has the features you need and you don't make over 100k per year in profit or budget.

Plus you can use things like Mecanim etc etc etc
