Holy s@#$! That website has so many freakin models, and just about all of the formats support unity, you don’t even have to login to download!!!

Man I sure hope these are actually made for this site and not just ripped from places, because this place has everything.

Edit: well that didn’t last long, reading from the comments quite a few are rips, and also they have this quote… “Some of the 3d models, scenes and graphics in this website are copyrighted to their rightful owners. You can use the free 3d models in your projects, but you aren’t allowed to redistribute or sale/resale.”

there are a lot of models that been made, and then you also have models that been ripped from mmo games.

As for the copyright. If you choose to sale your game. as long as you have the creator permission to use their models for a game you may choose to sale later, I think that would be fine.I would get it in writing showing they gave permission.

What if you added or took away from the models? what if you change the Textures? would it still be their models, even though you changed some?

i would not use the models …even prototyping. Ripped stuff is stolen stuff.

So how do you tell which models can be used safely in commercial projects and which cant.

As long as the model doesn’t look like it had came from a game, you should be fine to use them, after all they are free.

Yes it would be the same. Derivations of work don’t forfeit the rights of the original creator.

You’ll need to do some research. For example, the model you point at looks awfully similar to Torchlight 2 art.

This site lacks clear licensing labels for each model uploaded. It’s safer to assume that they are copyrighted by someone except when explicitly told otherwise. Always do your research to be sure.
