I’m wondering whether anyone knows of a source for elevation maps (i.e. with samples of the elevation at each point) of real regions that are freely usable and easily modifiable. There are a number of government databases of satellite maps, but these do not seem to include elevation, and most of them are so raw as to be difficult to use or splice together (since they’re usually in sections). I would also need some type of terrain map for each region as well - either satellite view or some type of vegetation ‘type’ indicator.
